Salem Tribe #5 – All Roads Lead to Google
Saturday, January 9th, 2010
Thanks to a suggestion from one of our Tribe members, we’ve nailed down a topic for our 5th Salem Tribe gathering. So bring a laptop or a notepad (you know, one of those things that contains paper to take notes on) and join us on February 1st, 6:30pm at the Ike Box.
All Roads Lead to Google
A Snap-shot of Google Applications You Can’t Live Without
Description: You know about Google Search, Gmail, and Google Maps. You might also know about Google Talk, Google Docs, and Google Earth. But what about Google Chrome, GOOG-411, Google Finance, Google Books, Google Blog Search, or Google Checkout. Or Blogger, Picasa, Reader, Knol, Translate, Orkut, Calendar, SketchUp, or a small site called YouTube? This presentation will explore a variety of Google Applications, most of which you can’t live your online life without.
Bo Lane was born in Portland, Oregon and has lived in Salem, Oregon for all (but 5 years) of his life. He and his wife publish Rethink Monthly – a local magazine in Oregon’s mid-Willamette valley. In addition to producing a quality publication and spending time with his beautiful wife and children, he enjoys playing basketball, reading, eating, and spending way too much time online.

Salem Tribe #4 – Video on the Web
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
We have a topic nailed down for Salem Tribe #4. It is going to be an awesome night! We have Chris Hahn giving a presentation on using video on the web
We hope to see you January 4th, 6:30pm at the Ike Box.
Video On The Web – It’s On Like Donkey Kong
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a single second of video is worth 30,000. You’ve seen it all over, on the web, in the news, even the news reporting on videos found on the web. Technologies like Flash based video recorders and services like YouTube have made it easier than ever to quickly capture ideas and events on video, and share them with others.
But how does this tech come together? What do you need to start making your own video content? How do I leverage video for personal branding, and business application? How do you put out a quality video without changing careers and breaking the bank? These are some of the questions that will be touched upon in this session.
We’re covering the gamut, but just scratching the surface of the potential for this powerful communication medium.
About Chris Hahn
Chris Hahn is a Mayan dude with a passion for technology, communications, art, and all things geekery. When he’s not cooking up his latest culinary concoction for his wife and 5 year old daughter, he can be found sponging new information daily, and spitting out all the best bits on Facebook and Twitter. He loves hacking old analog audio equipment, beat mashing, 80′s arcade games, internet memes, and occasionally talking in the 3rd person.
