Notes on Social Media Mixology
I had a great time at the third Salem Tribe meeting. I hope you did too! If you didn’t make it to the meeting, fear not. Here are some of the tools we discussed along with brief descriptions of each tool. We hope to see you January 4th at the Ike Box for Salem Tribe #4.
- Selective Twitter
- This Facebook Application allows you to pull in any tweet as your Facebook status simply by using the #fb hashtag.
- Selective LinkedIn
- Does the same thing as Selective Twitter, but for LinkedIn. Add this feature in your LinkedIn account settings.
- Posterous, Tumblr, PingFM
- These apps allow you to post to many social profiles via their service. Learn more about them at their websites.
- TwitterFeed
- You can connect any RSS feed to your Twitter account. It will auto-post to your twitter account when a new item is posted to the RSS feed. This is great for auto-tweeting about new blog posts, Flickr pics, videos, articles, etc.
- Wordbook
- This plugin allows you to cross-post your blog posts to your Facebook Wall. Your Facebook “Boxes” tab will show your most recent blog posts.
- Tweetdeck (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace)
- App used to manage multiple social media profiles. Built with Adobe AIR. Cross platform.
- Seesmic (Twitter, Facebook)
- The desktop app is built with Adobe AIR (cross platform) and can handle your Twitter and Facebook Accounts.
- There is also a web app, native Windows app, Blackberry app, and Android app.
- Sobees (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace)
- Similar to Tweetdeck, but online.
- Socialite (Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Flickr, Google Reader, RSS)
- A great app if you’re on a mac. Very versatile and seems to be on top of newer Twitter technologies (lists, retweet, etc).
- Sociable (social buttons)
- This is a WordPress plugin used to easily add “sharing” buttons to your blog.
- Intense Debate, Disqus
- Great tools to manage your blog comments. Tons of options including threaded comments, Facebook Connect, Twitter Connect, and more.
- Start Pages
- New trend to create start pages listing all of your social profiles and website (example: http://vinthomas.com).
- Easy to create using services like Card.ly and Chi.mp (example of Chi.mp site: http://vintom.mp)
- Bit.ly Sidebar
- The Bit.ly sidebar allows you post quickly to Twitter from any page on the internet. It will shorten the link to your current page.
- You can add #fb or #in from the tweet box to also post to Facebook and/or LinkedIn.
I hope you find some of these tools useful. We covered a lot of ground in a very short amount of time tonight. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section and I will do my best to answer.
See you next month!
