The Tribe Has Spoken

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Aaron-HockleyLess than a week ago, two dozen people assembled for the much-anticipated initial gathering of Salem Tribe – a brand new networking group made up of like-minded individuals, from Salem and the surrounding communities, who share a common passion for social media and the creative online community.

“Think before you tweet,” was just one piece of advice from Aaron Hockley – lead organizer of WordCamp Portland, professional photographer, and guest speaker for the evening. He shared his thoughts on how to build online influence naturally instead of listening to the so-called “social media experts.” Questions ensued, much conversation followed, new relationships established, and business cards exchanged.

Additionally, many of the attendees left positive feedback. From “better blogging for start-ups” and “marketing continuity” to “very basic geeky things” – these were just some of the things that attendees mentioned they’d like to see covered at future Salem Tribe events.

All in all, we’d say the first Salem Tribe gathering was a success. But don’t kick yourself if you happened to miss it, there are plenty more on the horizon. In fact, our second gathering already has a date: Monday, November 2, 2009. Details of the gathering will soon be announced. And, since the Ike Box was so good to us, we will continue to meet there and support them by purchasing drinks and snacks from their café.

With our first gathering behind us, we’re excited about what the future of Salem Tribe holds. If you’re looking for a great way to connect with people who are passionate about social media and the online creative community and how it can better themselves as leaders in their respective fields, please join us on this journey.

Until next time…

Welcome to SalemTribe

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Please excuse the mess – we’re under construction.
That being said, let me take a moment and briefly describe what SalemTribe is all about.

A friend (@vinthomas) and I (@BoLane) have developed a network called SalemTribe (@SalemTribe). This group is an outlet for like-minded individuals that share a common passion for social media and the creative online community (blogs, website development, graphic design, the internet, etc) to get together and learn how to better utilize these resources – and the relationships we will build – to further us as leaders in our community and in our respective fields. As we gather together, we’ll explore new and creative mediums and learn from people smarter than we are – as well as allow corporate time to ask questions or share some tips you and I have learned along the way.

If you find yourself having a shared interested with us, we invite you to our first meeting on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 6:30pm. Aaron Hockley, lead organizer of WordCamp Portland, founder of the Portland WordPress user group, and professional photographer, will be the presenter for our first gathering. The location is soon to be announced.

Let’s use SalemTribe as a way to communicate our shared passion. Let’s start leading, so others can follow. Hope to see you there.
